Company Culture

One of our main goals has been to create a lasting company spirit, one that can find itself amongst the artisans, our students, between artisans and students, and between everyone working to develop the mission and vision of Enjuba. We began by spending considerable time with the artisans, getting to know them and their families personally. The artisans became our friends, and the beginnings of trust has developed between us. We could easily find ourselves hanging out at one of the artisan´s homes until after midnight drinking African tea, sharing stories, and perhaps throwing out a few ideas for new products.

We got the artisans together for a team party on the shore of Lake Victoria and played soccer, frisbee, ate traditional food for lunch, did a few classic team building activities, and mainly got to know each other better. Later in the summer, we found Julius (an Enjuba artisan) teaching Kalungi (another Enjuba artisan) how to use his new sewing machine, which Kalungi had bought using an AGE loan.

We also want to tie our students into the company culture, and one of the ways we did this was by having a get-together with both the students and the artisans. We played games, had a barbecue, and then watched a slide-show of the artisans creating Enjuba products and of the students taking part in the education program at Masooli School.

We want Enjuba to be founded on a genuine eagerness to see Enjuba´s vision become a reality. A new member of our team, artisan or student, will feel this energy and enthusiastically become part of Enjuba´s mission.
